| Opmerkingen |
The Banco del Paraguay y Rio de la Plata was a privately chartered institution operating in Asunción during a period when Paraguay's monetary system was still rebuilding from near-total collapse after the War of the Triple Alliance ended in 1870 — a conflict that had killed a catastrophic proportion of the male population and left the country's financial infrastructure in ruins. Private banks filled the void that no functioning central authority could.
The South American Bank Note Company in Buenos Aires produced several Paraguayan private bank issues during this period. Its output is sometimes confused with North American security printers, but it operated independently in the region through the late nineteenth century.
