Obverse description The Mexican national arms are depicted centrally within an oval border: an eagle displayed standing on a cactus, devouring a serpent, surrounded by a wreath of oak and laurel branches tied at the base. The circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS runs along the upper periphery outside the oval. Below the oval, in the lower field, two lines of inscription indicate the silver content and fineness: 1/2 ONZA DE PLATA and LEY 0.999. A decorative border of stylized pre-Columbian glyphs encircles the entire design.
