The Banco Central de la República Argentina was established in 1935 under Governor Raúl Prebisch, who restructured it from a mixed public-private institution into a fully nationalized entity — a process completed by Perón in 1946. The 2010 anniversary issue appeared amid a period of intense controversy over central bank independence, as President Fernández de Kirchner had just moved to use reserves for sovereign debt payments, triggering the resignation of then-governor Martín Redrado.
