Additional information

The Banco Central de la República Argentina was founded in 1935, replacing the Caja de Conversión that had struggled to manage Argentina's monetary affairs through the Depression years. The 75th anniversary issue appeared in 2010 during a period of sustained tension between the BCRA and the Kirchner administration — a conflict that would culminate just months later in the forced resignation of central bank president Martín Redrado, who had refused to release reserves to service sovereign debt.

The plain edge variant is distinguished from the reeded KM#162.1 striking, both issues circulating concurrently.
