Entre Ríos was one of several Argentine provinces that reverted to issuing their own quasi-currency during the 2001–2002 economic collapse, when the federal government froze bank accounts and the peso's convertibility peg collapsed. These provincial bonds — called patacones in Buenos Aires province, lecops federally, and simply "bonos" in Entre Ríos — functioned as wage-payment instruments and circulated at rough parity with the national peso in local commerce.

Ciccone Calcográfica, operating under the Compañía de Valores Sudamericana name at its Don Torcuato facility, was the dominant domestic security printer of the period and handled emergency work for multiple provinces simultaneously during the crisis months.
