Comments

Formosa is one of the poorest provinces in Argentina, and its 2001 emergency note was issued precisely because the convertibility system — which had pegged the peso to the dollar at par since 1991 — was strangling provincial finances. Provinces across Argentina began printing their own quasi-currencies that year as the federal government restricted their access to funds. These notes, collectively known as "patacones" in Buenos Aires or by local names elsewhere, circulated as wages and were accepted for provincial tax payments.

Formosa's series is among the less documented of the provincial emissions, which makes clean attribution to specific print runs difficult.
