The Banco Nacional de Santo Domingo was a short-lived institution operating under a Dominican-American financial arrangement that preceded the formal U.S. customs receivership era. By 1912, Santo Domingo's public finances were already heavily entangled with American interests following the 1907 debt convention, and this dual-denomination note — payable in both pesos and dollars at par — reflects that dependency directly in its typography rather than through any symbolic gesture.

ABNC produced the plates in New York, as with virtually all Dominican paper of this period. The dollar equivalence printed on the face was a practical necessity, not a courtesy — American creditors and merchants required it.
