Opmerkingen

Banco de Barranquilla was one of several regional private banks operating in Colombia before the 1923 Kemmerer reforms dismantled the system and centralized note issue under the newly established Banco de la República. Notes from this period reflect a country where currency was genuinely local — a Barranquilla-issued peso had no guaranteed parity with one issued in Bogotá or Medellín.

The S-prefix in the Pick reference places this firmly in the specialized category, catalogued separately from national issues. Colombian private bank notes from around 1900 are irregularly encountered, and Banco de Barranquilla material in particular turns up less frequently than output from the larger Bogotá institutions.
