正面描述 The obverse is executed in intaglio, with the central vignette presenting an allegorical female figure beside a fruiting cornucopia and a tropical landscape with mountains and a vessel on water. At lower left, an oval portrait vignette of a bearded gentleman in formal attire is rendered in fine engraving. The numeral "2" appears in a counter at upper left, with the issuer's name "Estado Soberano de Panamá" in bold letterpress across the centre, above the denomination "DOS PESOS". A cherub vignette occupies the lower right corner, and the note bears manuscript signatures, a handwritten date, and printed text indicating payability at the State Treasury.

备注

The Estado Soberano de Panamá was one of nine sovereign states within the Rionegran confederation of Colombia, each granted the right to issue its own currency under the 1863 constitution — an arrangement that produced a proliferation of provincial paper money across the isthmus and the interior. Panama's geographic position made it an unusual case: the transcontinental railroad had been operating since 1855, and the local economy ran on a mix of Colombian, American, and Chilean coin alongside whatever paper the state could float.

The American Bank Note Company printed this series under its earlier corporate name. Attribution to that firm is confirmed by the imprint, not inferred.
