2 Pesetas Totana

Totana is a small agricultural municipality in the Murcia region, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency paper money when the Republic's central supply of small coinage dried up almost entirely after 1936. These local issues — collectively catalogued under the broader *billetes locales* classification — were printed under wildly varying conditions, often on whatever stock was available, with authorization from local revolutionary committees or municipal councils depending on who held power at the time.

The Gari Mon reference places this firmly within the documented Murcian emissions, but surviving examples from Totana are notably scarce, the town's output having been small and its notes subject to rapid withdrawal once normalcy — however briefly — was restored.
