Tornabous is a small municipality in the comarca of l'Urgell, Lleida province, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish municipalities during the Civil War it issued its own emergency paper money after the Republican government's decree of June 1937 authorized local authorities to produce low-denomination fractional currency to relieve a crippling coin shortage. These municipal emissions were never intended to circulate beyond village boundaries.

Turró catalogues over 2,500 distinct municipal issues from this period — this note's reference number placing it deep in that list signals just how many parallel local currencies were functioning simultaneously across Republican-held territory in 1937.
