| 裏面の説明 | The reverse is unprinted; the thin paper stock allows a faint mirror impression of the obverse letterpress to show through, with a residual outline of the double-rule border visible. No intentional design or lettering was applied to this side. |

Santiago de la Espada is a small municipality in the sierra of Jaén province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency small-change notes when coinage disappeared from circulation almost entirely after 1936. The Republican government's decree authorizing local paper money created a chaotic patchwork of municipal emissions across loyalist territory, each town printing what it could with whatever means it had available.
The Gari Montserrat catalog documents this specific emission as one of the rarer provincial entries — Santiago de la Espada's relative isolation in the Cazorla-Segura highlands meant low print runs and limited survival.
