Pozoblanco is a small town in the northern Sierra Morena of Córdoba province, and its wartime municipal currency was a direct consequence of the Republican government's inability to maintain coin supply across loyalist territory during 1936–37. The silver and copper coinage had effectively vanished — hoarded, melted, or simply absent from rural circulation — forcing hundreds of Spanish municipalities to print their own emergency fractional notes. This Pozoblanco emission is one of that wave.

Printing at Imprenta Bassa i Pagès in Barcelona, a real commercial press rather than a local hand-press operation, gives this note a degree of production consistency not always found in provincial wartime issues. Pozoblanco itself would later give its name to the Republican defensive line that held through much of 1937.
