One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes — known collectively as "moneda local" or "paper moneda" — issued by Catalan municipalities during the Civil War after the Republican government's chronic shortage of fractional coinage left everyday commerce paralyzed. Pallejà, a small town on the Llobregat river south of Barcelona, issued its own scrip rather than wait for a central solution that never convincingly arrived.

The printer, C.A.M., produced emergency currency for numerous Catalan councils during this period, which makes attribution relatively reliable despite the chaotic conditions of wartime Barcelona.
