Linares de Mora is a small municipality in Teruel, Aragon — during the Spanish Civil War, hundreds of such local councils issued emergency paper scrip to address the acute coin shortage that followed the hoarding and disappearance of metallic currency after July 1936. The Consejo Municipal issues were purely local instruments, accepted within the issuing township and often worthless a few kilometers away.
The official stamp served as the primary authentication device — a telling sign of how improvised these emissions were. No engraver, no security printer, no serial numbering in most cases.
