La Selva del Camp is a small municipality in the Camp de Tarragona comarca, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns it issued its own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republican government's coin shortage left local commerce effectively paralyzed. These municipal notes — collectively called moneda local or bitllets locals — were produced under a 1936 decree authorizing local authorities to fill the gap left by hoarded and melted coinage.
Turró's catalog documents over 2,000 such issuers. La Selva del Camp's placement at #2320 puts it deep in that count — a minor issuer with limited surviving quantities and essentially no formal redemption history once the Nationalist forces consolidated control of the region in 1939.
