Igualada, a textile town in the Anoia comarca of Catalonia, issued emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after Republican authorities requisitioned metallic coinage for the war effort. These municipal notes — often called bitllets locals — were produced by dozens of Catalan towns in 1936–37 to fill the void left by vanishing small change, and Igualada's issues are among the more robustly printed examples, struck on card stock rather than the flimsy paper many smaller municipalities used.
Turró's catalog remains the primary reference for this material; his numbering places this 2 Pesetas issue within a tightly documented local series.
