Caudiel is a small municipality in the province of Castellón, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, its local cooperative issued its own emergency scrip when coinage vanished from circulation almost overnight in mid-1936. These hyper-local issues — produced without central authorization and in tiny quantities — were functional tokens of necessity, not banking instruments in any formal sense. Many were printed on whatever card stock was available locally, which accounts for the variation in substrate quality found across surviving examples.
The Gari reference number is unassigned, suggesting this piece was either catalogued after the main Gari listings were compiled or remains imperfectly documented — not unusual for the smaller Valencian cooperative emissions.
