Castellvell del Camp is a small municipality in the Baix Camp comarca of Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency paper money when coinage effectively vanished from circulation in 1936–37. The Republican government's decree authorizing local currency emissions gave legal cover to these issues, but in practice each municipality printed what it could afford and distribute. Turró catalogues this 2 Pesetas note as #771, placing it within a vast, poorly-documented family of wartime local issues.
Survival rates for Castellvell del Camp emissions are low — the town's population was under a thousand, meaning total print runs were small.
