Calasparra is a small municipality in the Murcia region, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional currency — "billetes de necesidad" — when the Republican government's coin supply collapsed almost entirely after 1936. Hoarding and metal requisitioning gutted everyday commerce, and local councils filled the gap with whatever printing capacity they had at hand.
The Gari Moneró catalogue documents this emission, but surviving examples are genuinely scarce. Small-town issues like this one were redeemed and destroyed aggressively at the war's end, or simply disintegrated given the low-grade paper stock typically available to municipal printers in 1937.
