2 Pesetas Barcelona; Sindicat Obrer de les Aigües de Barcelona

The Sindicat Obrer de les Aigües de Barcelona — the water workers' union — issued its own scrip during the anarcho-syndicalist collectivization of Barcelona's utilities in the early months of the Spanish Civil War. With the Republican peseta unreliable and the CNT-FAI running much of the city's infrastructure as workers' collectives, dozens of trade unions and enterprises printed their own emergency currency to pay wages and facilitate local exchange. The water workers' note is one of the more obscure survivals from that period.
