Aversbeschreibung Central field depicts a crowned figure, likely a heraldic animal or royal emblem, rendered in a crude hammered style typical of late 16th-century Swedish coinage. The design occupies the majority of the flan, surrounded by a circular legend. The relief is low and the strike somewhat uneven, consistent with hand-hammered production at the Stockholm Mint. The surrounding legend reads SIGISMVNDVS D G REX SVE, identifying Sigismund III Vasa as King of Sweden by the grace of God.

Reversbeschreibung Central field features a crowned shield bearing the Swedish arms, rendered in a bold but somewhat crude hammered style. The quartered coat of arms is clearly visible within the shield, occupying the central portion of the flan. A circular border inscription surrounds the shield, and the overall design is characteristic of the small hammered billon and silver issues of Sigismund III Vasa's Swedish coinage. The surrounding legend reads MONETA NOVA STOKHOLM 1594, identifying this as a new coin struck at Stockholm in 1594.

Zusätzliche Informationen

Sigismund III Vasa was simultaneously King of Poland and, from 1592, King of Sweden — a dual monarchy that satisfied almost no one. Swedish nobles, deeply suspicious of his Catholicism and his Polish entanglements, began maneuvering against him almost immediately. This Stockholm issue dates to just two years into that fraught reign, before the regency crisis hardened into open conflict. Sigismund would be deposed by 1599, replaced by his uncle Charles IX, making his Swedish coinage a relatively compressed series concentrated in the 1590s.
