Obverse description The Brian Boru harp, the national symbol of Ireland, is depicted in high relief at the center of the field, rendered with fine decorative detail including interlaced ornamental work on the soundboard and forepillar. The legend 'EIRE' curves along the left rim in Gaelic-style lettering, while the date appears vertically along the right rim. The design was engraved by Gabriel Hayes and reflects the distinctive Irish national coinage aesthetic established at independence.
