Additional information

Gibraltar's coinage has always occupied an awkward jurisdictional space — British in currency but locally administered, producing small runs that never achieve the circulation volumes of mainland issues. The non-magnetic bronze composition of this type distinguishes it from later bimetallic and steel-core successors, a distinction that matters to variety collectors more than casual ones.

Europa Point Lighthouse, at the southernmost tip of the Rock, marks one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world. Trinity House administered it until 1994, when responsibility transferred to the Gibraltar Port Authority.
