| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents a composite heraldic design combining the arms of Her Majesty's Government with the Gibraltar coat of arms. The central quartered royal shield displays the passant guardant lions of England in the first and fourth quarters, the rampant lion and double tressure flory counter-flory of Scotland in the second, and the Irish harp in the third; the shield is surmounted by a crowned lion as crest. Flanking the royal arms are the distinctive supporters: a crowned English lion to the dexter and a chained Scottish unicorn to the sinister. Beneath the main achievement, Gibraltar's own escutcheon depicts a three-towered castle from which hangs a golden key, symbolising British sovereignty over the Rock since its capture in 1704. The commemorative legend arcs above and below the design in the field. |
