Reverse description The crowned composite arms of Philip II of Spain occupy the central field, quartering Castile, León, Aragon, and other Iberian territories, with an inescutcheon bearing the arms of Burgundy-Brabant at the base. The royal shield is surmounted by an arched imperial crown. The date appears at the conclusion of the encircling Latin legend, which is interrupted by a mint mark. The die work reflects the typical hammered technique of the period, with some irregularity in the strike consistent with provincial Tournai production.
