Rewa's coinage under Vishwanath Singh occupies an awkward transitional moment — the East India Company was consolidating authority across Central India, and many princely states continued issuing copper for local bazaar circulation precisely because the Company showed little interest in policing low-denomination trade coinage. These pieces passed through weekly markets in the Vindhya region without British interference, a practical tolerance that would tighten considerably after 1858.
