Nepal's brass coinage of this period was issued under Tribhuvan, who spent much of his reign as a figurehead under Rana oligarchic rule. In November 1950, he famously sought asylum in the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and then flew to New Delhi, triggering a political crisis that ended over a century of Rana dominance and restored meaningful royal authority by 1951. Coins struck across this date range therefore span two radically different political regimes, with the king's name on the obverse carrying very different weight in 1942 than it did by 1953.
