| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central motif depicts a multi-tiered South Indian gopuram (temple tower) rising from a decorative base, rendered in relief with detailed horizontal tiers. Fourteen five-pointed stars are arranged in a circle surrounding the gopuram. The outer legend reads '2 PAGODAS' in large Latin capital letters arching around the upper periphery, with a scroll-like ornamental element at the base, all enclosed within a beaded border. |

The Madras Presidency pagoda was among the oldest coin types the Company inherited rather than invented — the denomination had circulated on the Coromandel Coast for centuries before the EIC standardized it. This star pagoda issue was struck at the Madras Mint, which had been rebuilt and re-equipped under Company direction in the 1780s specifically to bring indigenous denominations under tighter metallurgical control. The 14-star variety is distinguished from earlier issues by die characteristics catalogued under KM#357, though attribution between adjacent issues can be genuinely difficult on worn examples.
