Additional information

These two years represent the entire run of this denomination under Haakon VII's first coinage, struck immediately after Norwegian independence from Sweden in 1905. The dissolution of the union prompted a rapid redesign of all circulating coinage — Haakon, a Danish prince who had been elected to the newly independent Norwegian throne, needed his own currency in circulation quickly to reinforce the legitimacy of the new monarchy.

Production ceased after 1907, making this a short-lived type replaced by a revised design the following year.
