Charles XI was thirteen years old when these coins entered circulation, his regency council effectively governing Sweden through a period of fiscal strain left by his father's wars. The billon composition — barely half silver — reflects the crown's difficulty maintaining metallic standards during this stretch, a problem that would worsen before the currency reforms of the 1680s brought greater stability.

KM#241.1 distinguishes this as the first type in the series, superseded by minor die modifications before the issue closed in 1669.
