Obverse description At center, the heraldic winged Lion of St. Mark faces left, holding an open Bible in its forepaw and clasping a bundle of seven arrows — each arrow symbolizing one of the seven Ionian Islands. The design is rendered in bold relief against a plain field. The circular Greek legend ΙΟΝΙΚΟΝ ΚΡΑΤΟΣ (Ionian State) arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 1819 positioned below. The coin is bordered by a beaded rim.
