Part of Israel's ongoing biblical women series, this issue commemorates Miriam — sister of Moses — and her role in leading the women of Israel in song after the crossing of the Red Sea, as described in Exodus 15. The Bank of Israel has used the 2 New Sheqalim silver format consistently for collector issues since the late 1980s, with annual themes drawn from scripture, archaeology, and national history.
