| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a scene adapted from the Golden Haggadah of Barcelona (c. 1320), showing five robed women in medieval dress rendered in a linear, illuminated-manuscript style against a deeply mirrored proof field. The central figure holds an ornately decorated box or casket, while flanking figures carry musical instruments including a tambourine, evoking the biblical scene of Miriam leading the women in song after the crossing of the Red Sea (Exodus 15:20). Decorative foliate scroll borders frame the composition at left and right. The design is executed with fine engraved lines that contrast sharply with the polished proof surface. No inscriptions appear on the reverse. |
