Additional information

Issued to mark the centenary of Begin's birth, this coin appeared three decades after he became the first Israeli prime minister to sign a peace treaty with an Arab state — the 1979 Camp David Accords with Egypt, which cost him significant support within his own Likud base. Begin accepted the Nobel Peace Prize that year alongside Anwar Sadat, though he remained deeply conflicted about the territorial concessions involved. He resigned in 1983, largely withdrawn from public life, and died in 1992.
