Issued to mark Israel's 41st Independence Day, this coin belongs to the long-running annual commemorative series the Bank of Israel has produced since the early 1960s. The 41st anniversary held no particular symbolic weight — unlike the 40th or later the 50th — which makes it a quieter entry in the series, produced more out of continuity than occasion.
KM#200 was struck in a period when Israeli commemorative silver was still predominantly distributed through overseas Judaica dealers and diaspora collectors, meaning domestic circulation was essentially nil from the outset.
