| Obverse description | Cast bronze cash-type coin centered on a square hole flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion within the inner field. Reading clockwise from the top: 常 (sang), 通 (tong), 平 (pyeong), and 寶 (bo), forming the legend 常平通寶 — the standard inscription of Joseon Dynasty coinage signifying 'Ever-Normal Circulating Treasure.' The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) with bold, well-defined strokes typical of mid-18th century Joseon cast coinage. A plain raised rim borders the outer edge of the coin. |
