| Obverse description | Cast copper cash-type coin featuring four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform around a central square hole. Reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left in the traditional manner, the obverse bears the inscription 常平通寶 (Sangpyeong Tongbo), denoting the Sangpyeong Bureau — the Joseon government agency responsible for monetary circulation — alongside the term 通寶 (Tongbo), meaning 'circulating treasure' or currency. The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) within a plain, undecorated field, with no inner or outer rim ornamentation beyond the standard cast border. |
