Obverse description Cast bronze cash coin with a central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion around the perforation. Reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left, the legend reads 常平通寶 (Sangpyong Tongbo), identifying the coin as currency issued under the Joseon Dynasty's Sangpyeong (Ever-Normal) monetary system. The character 常 (Sang) appears at the top, 平 (Pyong) at the bottom, 通 (Tong) to the right, and 寶 (Bo) to the left of the central hole. The field displays the characteristic rough cast surface texture typical of Joseon-era bronze cash coinage. The coin exhibits natural bronze patination with areas of green and brown oxidation consistent with age.
