| Beschrijving voorzijde | Cast brass cash-type coin featuring four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform fashion around a central square perforation. Reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left, the legend reads 常平通寶 (Sangpyeong Tongbo), identifying the issuing authority as the Sangpyeong (Ever-Normal) Bureau of the Joseon Dynasty and denoting the piece as currency. The characters are boldly rendered in raised relief against a flat field, with the square central hole framed by a raised inner rim. A plain raised outer rim encircles the entire design. |
