Obverse description Central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion within a plain circular border. Reading clockwise from top, the legend reads 常平通寶 (Sangpyeong Tongbo), identifying this as currency issued under the Joseon Dynasty's Sangpyeong (Ever-Normal) system. The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) with even, well-formed strokes. The field is plain, with no additional ornament or decorative elements.
