Reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left in the traditional manner, the legend reads 常平通寶 (Sangpyong Tongbo), identifying the coin as currency of the Sangpyongcheong (Office of Ever-Normal Treasury), the Joseon monetary authority responsible for coin issuance. The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) within a plain, raised square rim surrounding the central perforation, itself enclosed within a broader plain outer rim. The field surface is unadorned, consistent with standard Joseon cast coinage of the period. |
