| Beschrijving voorzijde | Round cast copper coin featuring a central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion within the field. Reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left in the traditional manner, the four-character legend 常平通寶 (Sangpyong Tongbo, meaning 'Ever-Normal Circulating Treasure') is boldly rendered in relief in standard script (kaishu). The characters are well-spaced around the square central aperture, with a plain raised rim encircling the entire face. The coin exhibits a dark olive-brown patina with areas of green cuprite corrosion consistent with long circulation. |
