| Obverse description | Round cast bronze cash coin with a central square hole surrounded by a raised square rim. Four Chinese characters in regular script (楷書) are arranged in the four cardinal positions around the central perforation: 常 (above), 平 (below), 通 (right), and 寶 (left), reading 常平通寶 — the standard legend of the Joseon dynasty Sangpyeong Tongbo coinage. The characters are rendered in bold, deeply incuse relief against a flat field, enclosed within a plain raised inner rim and an outer border rim. |
