Obverse description Round cast bronze coin featuring a central square perforation surrounded by a raised square border. Four Chinese characters are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central hole: 常 (Sang) at top, 平 (Pyong) at bottom, 通 (Tong) to the right, and 寶 (Bo) to the left, together reading 常平通寶 (Sangpyong Tongbo), the standard legend of the Joseon Dynasty mun coinage. The field displays characteristic casting texture with a plain outer rim.
