The Ham Hwang (咸鏞) provincial series was minted by the Hamgyong Provincial Military Command as part of Joseon's mid-18th century expansion of cash coin production beyond the central mints in Seoul. Chronic copper shortages and the proliferation of authorized regional mints during this decade produced considerable variation in alloy quality and casting precision — the CK 라-432荒(1) designation specifically identifies the "Hwang" furnace mark, distinguishing output from different casting furnaces within the same provincial operation.
