| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features a rampant lion passant, the traditional heraldic emblem of Flanders, rendered in low relief consistent with hammered coinage of the early sixteenth century. The lion is depicted facing left with raised forepaw, set within a plain field on an irregularly shaped copper flan. A partial Latin legend encircles the device, reading KAROLVS ROM IMP, identifying the issuer as Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor. The overall execution is characteristic of the crude but vigorous style associated with Flemish mite coinage of this period. Significant surface corrosion and wear obscure finer details of the design. |
