The surrounding field is filled with a continuous marginal legend in Arabic, including the mint name Astarabad, rendered in a vigorous Timurid hand characteristic of late-fifteenth-century eastern Islamic coinage. The legends are deeply struck in high relief against a flat, unornamented field. The flan is irregular in outline, typical of hammered silver coinage of the period. No figural imagery is present, the entire design being purely epigraphic in the established Timurid tradition. |
