By 1887, Brazil was still a constitutional monarchy under Pedro II, and the Thesouro Nacional's recurring engagement with the American Bank Note Company reflected a long-standing institutional preference for intaglio-quality security printing that domestic facilities couldn't reliably match. This is the seventh print of the type — a detail that matters more than it might seem.
