The "13th Print" designation in the Thesouro Nacional series reflects Brazil's practice of issuing successive impressions under the same Pick number rather than redesigning or renumbering — a bureaucratic continuity that makes dating individual examples genuinely difficult without examining serial prefixes. By the early 1920s, the Casa da Moeda do Brasil had been producing these low-denomination treasury notes domestically for decades, having taken over from European contractors in an effort to reduce dependence on foreign printers.
The 2 Mil Réis was a workhorse denomination, absorbed quickly into petty commerce and rarely returned in collectible condition.
